All governments exist at the sufferance of the people. And frankly, they will do whatever the people will suffer them to do, too. Let's talk about government behavior: what should and should not be happening, and why...

North American Union and VChip Truth">Stuff That Makes You Go, "Hmmmmm"

I just saw this video, North American Union and VChip Truth, first time.

I'd like to draw your attention to the latter half of it, where Aaron Russo talks about a conversation he had with one of the Rockefellers.

I can't say of a certainty that Russo would not embellish, but knowing what I know of his political activism, I would tend to believe what he says.

If it's true, it's chilling stuff.

The Disastrous Politicization of Climate Change

A lot has been said about global climate change.

In recent years, we've seen an uptick in the animosity spewed in this contest. It's not a contest of good science, but of wills and politics.

When someone starts chanting "settled science," one should take a moment to consider the reasons for such a claim. When someone starts referring to those who doubt the science--even scientists who have and state reasons for disagreement--as the moral equivalent of neonazis (or anyone who denies any of the great genocides of the 20th Century), one really has to get serious about the danger implied.

The ones proclaiming settled science have backed their assertions that the science is settled with charts, graphs and facts that do seem alarming, at least on first brush.

On the flipside--and the argument that is being heard less, is the following:

A Convenient Fiction?

We're not talking about some rube here, folks. It's Dr. Steven Hayward, of the Pacific Research Institute. I don't know if he's right, but here's what I do think...

I think the science is not very well settled at all. I don't want to speculate on the reasons some folks would try to instill fear without good evidence. But that seems to be what's happening.

We all have reason to try to reduce our impacts, except those we truly desire to have. It also pays to conjure up alternatives to established technologies--it tends to reduce not only environmental impacts, but also the power to monopolize a market.

How to discipline your government on this one? Your letter should question the science of global warming. Your vote should be for someone who is not taken in by scare tactics and mediocre science.

U.S. Citizens: Are you tired of the Republican/Democrat non-choice?

For U.S. citizens who are fed up with the usual Republican/Democrat choices, but are also doubtful of the benefit of looking third party, I have a recommendation for you. Please take a look at Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is a Republican, but not your Daddy's Republican. He believes that U.S. government is massively oversized, has expanded its functions beyond all legal (constitutional) limits, and needs major reduction. If you like freedom, he's your man.

Dr. Paul has demonstrated his commitment to these ideas by his consistent voting record in Congress.

So, what I ask all to do is:

1. Check out Dr. Paul's web site.

2. If you agree with him, put away whatever party tradition you might have, vote in the Republican primary, and choose Ron Paul.

3. If Paul somehow manages to get the Republican nomination, vote for him in the general election.

Electing Paul, by itself, won't change the direction or velocity of U.S. government. But it will bring a new awareness to Capitol Hill, forcing members of Congress to recognize that Americans are fed up. Perhaps we can see some changes from those folks.

For your votes on Congress, please review the candidates carefully, and vote for freedom--no matter WHAT party you have to go with in order to do so.

America has been moving down the road to unfreedom for many decades. It's time to reverse that trend.

About Self-Actualization

Self-actualization is a pretty heady topic. It's also a major key to the whole "living well is action that leads to surviving well--to sustainable living as circumstances change," the major theme of live-well-survive-well.com, my main site.

Just briefly, self-actualization is both a drive and a destination, as it were.

Taken as a destination, it's something of a harmonic convergence of basic and more advanced needs. When you've managed these needs and made them into a sort of self-perpetuating harmony, your full potential--your ultimate you--comes out and you are self-actualized.

As a drive, it is a deep, soulful need to rise above, to transcend the mundane and become your full potential.

Either way, the self-actualized have: independence, autonomy, a tendency to form few but deep friendships, a philosophical sense of humor, a tendency to resist outside pressures, and a general transcendence of the environment rather than simply coping with it.

Yes, heady indeed. And perhaps you can see how this would alter the course of our so-called civilization. If people were really attuned to these factors, the world would be a different place.

Further, there wouldn't be room for the machinations of government and industry folks--or any other pretentious elite--to run us around in circles. People on this track just won't play that.

The Low Road to National Disintegration

A thread to read...

This thread, posted starting in May of 2006, is still valid. It starts out with an article that I strongly suggest you read, and then follow the links.

And then many comments by forum members. The forum is called Hoodlums (because the founder's name is Hood), and is one of the finer resources on survival and primitive living that I've found on the web.

It's also a great group of people.

The article that forms the basis of the thread is Top 10 Signs of the Impending U.S. Police State.

You may have a reaction to such a title. A lot of people just can't believe that our government could have turned sour and gone bad. But it's been in the process for decades, and unless we the people start getting serious about managing our government--which is the way it's supposed to be in the U.S.; not the other way around--we'll be looking at martial law sooner than later.
